Chubbie Super Heroes - Current Project

My Love and I are a little bit on the nerdy side.  =) We like video games, Star Wars, Warhammer, and comic books. My current craft project is making crochet super heroes.  The patterns aren't quite perfected yet, but here are some sneak peaks.

This project started because Eric's favorite Marvel hero is Deadpool. Deadpool isn't one of the more popular characters so it's difficult to find any merchandise of him, so I decided to make him some. =) His next favorite is Captain America, so that was my second character.

I'm more of a DC girl myself, so I thought I'd start with the big 3; Batman, Superman & Wonder Woman.  I started with WW, then started Batman, but I ran out of black yarn, so Batman still needs to be attached & needs some arms, and WW is having a really bad hair day. =P

I haven't added any details or accessories yet & I can't find my eyes & don't remember where I bought them.  I tried Beverly's and Michael's, but no luck there.  I'll try Jo Ann's when I get a chance.

These guys measure about 6.5" tall and 5.5" wide.  They're still a work in progress, but let me know what you think.  Once the pattern is down I will start selling them in my shop.  I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions, and let me know if there are other super heroes you'd like to see in the future. =)

Thanks for checking these out. =)

P.S. I apologize for the bad lighting in the pictures.  These are taken on my phone because I lost my camera on my last vacation. =(

The Origin of the Forever Fish

I met my fiancé Eric about 7 years ago when I was working at a video game store.  He was friends with my manager so he visited the store quite often. At the time we were both in separate relationships, but we became close friends.  Fast forward several years and now we are engaged. =)

When we first started dating there was some difficulty in determining whether we were still "just friends" or if we were becoming something more.  Around this time I had also discovered a book called The Pout Pout Fish by Deborah L. Diesen about a fish who thought he was a pout-pout fish until someone came along and kissed him and he found he was a kiss-kiss fish all along.  I should mention that I'm a preschool teacher and am constantly buying picture books for my kiddos.  =)

I bought this book and shortly thereafter, Pout-Pout Fish became my new nickname for Eric (and his for me as well). This came up constantly in our quirky non-arguments in ways such as: “Stop being a pout-pout fish.” “I’m not a pout-pout fish, you’re being a mean fish”.  etc. It didn’t take long for us to start adding “fish” to the end of every emotion, action and adjective.

Eventually the phrase “Forever Fish” came up, and it just stuck.  Gotta love that alliteration. =) During a break at work I drew a picture of our Forever Fish with some nearby crayons, and ever since then these fish and other ocean themes have come up in my crafting. The fish change color and size, but there are always two of them facing each other with love bubbles forming above them.  These are our fishies, our Forever Fish. =)
