What's In A Name?

Are you wondering what Earth Psalts are? Well, let me tell you the story of how I chose this name!

First let me say, the "P" is silent! I wanted a name that would reflect not just my work, but also my faith. Scripture tells believers that we are the salt of the earth. Did you know that salt was once a commodity more precious than gold? It's true! But what is it that makes salt so important, and what does that have to do with believers? Well, salt is a natural preservative, and before the days of electrical refrigerators, salt prevented meat from spoiling in the heat of desert climates. It also has a positive effect on the flavor of food. Likewise, believers in Christ preserve the world from rampant evil in societies that are corrupt with sin, flavoring the world around them with a positive influence.

I wanted my business to be salty! I wanted to somehow touch lives with my jewelry and gifts, in a way that would shine the light of truth into someone's life! That part was easy, since my passion is helping people who can't afford to adequately feed themselves or their families. So I chose to donate a minimum of 10% of each sale to the Grapevine Fellowship Food Bank. Now, back to the story of Earth Psalts, here is a little trivia. Did you know that the word psalt is actually in the Bible? Well, kind of. The word psaltery is, anyway. A "psaltery" was a musical instrument played by  a "psalter" who probably sang "psalms". Obviously I don't sell musical instruments, but I do like to think of my jewelry and other items as instruments of God's love. I actually say a prayer asking God to bless each person who receives one of my creations. Then I give back to the community, through the food bank. Everything comes around again!
