Welcome to the sixth day of Meylah’s Twelve Days of Christmas Giveaway! To celebrate today we want to introduce Chirag Vedullapalli, my son, who was our inspiration to bring Meylah together. Chirag is 9 years old and in the 3rd grade. He is very passionate about helping the community through his art and started his journey to become an artist 4 years ago. He has completed over 150 paintings in that time, which can be viewed from his Flickr Photostream. In addition to Flickr, Chirag also manages his community network through his fan page on Facebook.
Check out Chirag in action!
Chirag sells his artwork in the range of $30 up to $200 and the proceeds are donated to his favorite organizations that help kids. In his short career, he has already raised over $3000 to support the Children’s Hospital in Seattle along with his class at school and other local charities. To scale the impact he can make, he has started an organization called Creative Children for Charity which focuses on children creating works of art to raises money for the Children’s Hospital.
Here is one of his creations that he calls "Seattle Through My Eyes"
"Color Combo is the painting about still life. I created this painting because my mom loved a similar painting I had done at my Fall City art class. So I got to work! This painting shows the sky, hills, and a large grassy land. The grassy land is represented by the golden hue. I used orange in the middle to represent the hills, and purple to show the sky when the sun has set. I put about 3 layers of every color to create the depth in each area. Then I started to blend different colors into my base colors to make it rich such as green into gold, red into orange and pink into purple. Other details I added are a barn, the river, some trees, and last about 10 birds. This made the painting come to life."
To win Color Combo today, Chirag would like to receive comments on any of the following topics:
- What do you like about my art?
- How do I mature as an artist?
- How do I network with other child artists?
Thank you Chirag for being the inspiration for us all!

Excellent piece of work. You will excel like your father in future life. All the best.
Keep up the good work. Only few can do it and balance the equilibrium with evil.
Amazon composition for a man of his age. Very impressive.
I liked everything I saw. Follow your heart and tell your story, don’t be measured by maturity norms decided by others.
Thank you for your encouragement and awesome comments.
Chirag,
Excellent pictures. I really like the depiction, color combinations that you are using in your art. Kudos for your hard work as well as creative skills. Keep up the good work.

Awesome work Chirag! You have really grown as an artist. Its amazing that not only are you following your passion, you are also using it to help the community. Keep up the good work.
Amazing work. Just as the meaning of your name depicts… You are the light. Its a natural talent… Do well & god bless.
Chirag – I love your sense of color. You are so incredibly talented!
Chirag,
I love you art!! It is amazing that at your age you are able to create such wonderful piece or art that inspire so much. The depth of color and creativity you have is phenomenal!! Can’t wait to see you you come up with in the future!
WOW. This makes me wish I would have kept my paintings and drawings as a child.
Chirag,
I like best your colors, so bright and bold. It’s like your art shows you are confident in what you create.
I think the more you experience other art – from art history to modern art you will grow and mature and fall more in love with your creativity.
Your work is amazing, not because you are young :) but because you are an artist and you create. Keep on going.
Peace.
Chirag,
I guess I have to answer on how you have matured as an artist, right? :) It’s only appropriate…
I remember when we used to work together on our art creations, sitting at the kitchen in your old house in Fremont. We would draw Lions and Tigers from a drawing book your Papa got you, and we would never want to stop! I’m so proud of you and your talents and that you have not lost your love of art.
I think one way your art has matured is your amazing use of color. The way you combine the colors intensifies everything in this paticular painting. Each time I see your paintings, I noticed that your skills have really just blossomed. Your skill of perception also amazes me…“Seattle through my eyes” turned out gorgeous because of your choicce in angle and perception. :)
The biggest way your art has matured is not so much in what you have created with your hands, but more importantly, what you do with your heart.
You have grown up to be such a considerate human being, and I am so proud to hear what you have been doing and how you have helped so many children.
Even though you’ve grown up, when I see that happy smile in your picture, I still feel like you are the same kid I used to spend hours with frawing and creating. Good Luck to you and all the projects you have going on. We miss you lots!
Chirag,
We loved your work and fabulous creativity. Kudos to your hard work and dedication.Your each art has a meaning . Keep up the good work. You really have proved the meaning of your name“Chirag”!!!!! You are a Chirag of Vedullapalli’s ! God bless you !
We love you…...
I love this piece of art and am excited to see what great pieces you will create in the future. Keep up the good work Chirag!
Awesome work Chirag! Remember to follow your passion, that is the most important thing for any of us. I write books, and it is my way to be creative and give people something to enjoy. Remember also that you will always have naysayers around you and my advice is just to ignore them.
Keep on painting!
Yours,
Petri
Chirag, you are a ‘prodigy’ in the true sense. When kids of your age are thinking about the new DS game in the market, you are thinking of kids fighting for their life in Seattle Children’s hospital and helping them. You are the ‘
Chirag/light’ of their life.
And, the colors thatyou use in your paintings depict that very sentiment of yours. It is about the passion for life and creating a better place for everyone to live in.
Wish there were a few more kids like you. It would definitely make the world a better place to live.
All the very best, keep the fire on….
Love
Gunjan…
Great work Chirag! Helping charity using your art is just amazing. Keep it up.
I’m a huge fan of Chirag’s work. You have a very talented son, who’se talent is sophisticated beyond his years!

What wonderful paintings. They are so colorful and vibrant. Keep it up. Wish you all the best.
It is nice to hear you donating money for charitable cause and the underprivileged at this young age. Keep it up
Good work Chirag! I fully expect to see your works of art in a prestigious art gallery in a few years.
Chirag,
Love your artwork. Now, you asked specific questions – so let me give my thoughts on each one of them.
1. What do you like about my art?
The colors and how you have used them. They are bold and pleasant both at the same time.
The second thing I like about is how much you say in those few colors. It seems like the painting is speaking with me.
2. How do I mature as an artist?
You have a great start and what you have done at this age is simply amazing. However, this is just a start and as you continue to create breathtaking work, spend equal or more time learning from teachers that can help you take your craft to a whole new level.
Those who invest in themselves and their strengths over a long period of time will have an unfair competitive advantage.
Please make the most of the support structure at home and follow your passion.
Wish you the very best for a bright future.
3. How do I network with other child artists?
I would suggest you change the question and just focus on networking with other artists. As you have proven yourself, age is no barrier and you can learn and share with other artists across the world not worrying about their age.
Web is an amazing thing and you can start with services like Flickr to start networking.
Wish you the very best.
Cheers,
Rajesh
Chirag, I have seen several of your amazing paintings thanks to my brother. You are a great artist!! Very Cool stuff.

How do I mature as an artist?
-continue to take classes and experiment with new mediums
How do I network with other child artists?
-Contact other schools and invite students to get involved in your charitable ventures. Hold a “create in the park picnic” – everyone brings art supplies for a day of creativity and making new friends.
What do i like about your art?
Simplicity, Honesty, Depth
How do I mature as an artist?
Maturity comes with appreciation and awareness of your surroundings.. comprehending the things and events around you… processing it internally and then .. at some point that knowledge will take a form ..and looking at your creativity.. will be expressed as a beautiful work of art.
A work of art that leaves a mark on everyone in contact. You are already on your way there.. congratulations on that..
Also remember the road is uphill and you might find hurdles on the way. As a mature artist, learn from the hurdles, assimilate the knowledge and move on..
How do I network with other child artists?
Just smile.. Networking is just one of the means. Your art and personna will get you where you want to go. Also, with your gift, you probably will create more child artists..
All the best!
Sarika
I love this one because of the colors and sense of depth. You’ll improve as an artist by continuing to express what you feel. Your work is beautiful.
dear cherag,
I really love your art and find myself smiling immediately whenever I see your paintings. The Color Combo especially makes me happy because I want to run into this painting and roll in the fields and fly in your skies. You insire me to paint because you show that age has not limits on people who love to paint and use color to make happiness-thanks. Vicci
Congratulations Chirag on what you have achieved so far, Its wonderful to see your creativity and its truly infections. I feel like getting the color pallete out. We are really proud of you.
The Color combo is brilliant. The colors you have chosen and hte way it has been mixed and painted is beautiiful. If you had left a fading sun in this figure it would have still enhanced the matural beauty. Keep it up and all the very best.
Chirag,
I am very proud of you… That’s some brilliant work… Keep it going… Lots of love…
You are a talented and determined young man with a heart full of passion for what you do and that shows in your art as well as why you do it.
Giving you advice on how to mature as an artist seems almost unnecessary – you’re more mature in your approach than many an artist already!
Just keep going!
with warm greetings from Barbados
Child art at its best. Please continue in the same fashion, with the same vigour and energy. Your choice of colours is unique and the application as well. I really liked the painting “Seattle through my eyes” for it reflects a child’s freedom of vision. ‘Color Combo’ is good but there is a sense of deliberation to the elements but your explanation of the colour choices and the layer treatment shows maturity beyond your years.
As for your 3 questions:
What do I like in your paintings? – The sense of freedom.
How do you mature as an artist? – By continuing to paint and staying away from art schools atleast till you are 15-16 years old. They will only inhibit your own style and educate (?) you to be like all the other artists. To learn, turn to nature and the things around you. Don’t push to get them in your sketches exactly as they are but exactly as they seem to you.
How do you network with other child artists? – Well, this initiative should get you lots of links to other child artists. Internet is a strong tool. But the question remains, why do you want to find the other child artists? Is it to compare your art level with them? If so, then stop wasting your time and effort. Your art is unique as long as it is untainted and pure. Create art because you want to and not to sell or for fame or rewards. Leave that for the commercial artists.
Wow, really impressive paintings. I like them a lot, Chirag, you are a really gifted kid, keep it up!!
Chirag! Your talents are phenomenal! I see you take city art classes. Do you have any other training? Do you plan on attending art school in the future? How about apprenticing with an established artist from your area? If this is what you create at nine, I imagine as you grow, you will be teaching us all!
Starting your own organization is a feat in itself. What a wonderful way to network. Might I suggest, if you wish to go national, that you approach an established non-profit such as the YMCA or Boys and Girls clubs to spread your good work and meet other artists.
Think of all the good you can do!
My best wishes to you. I look forward to seeing more of your work and will follow your achievements on Facebook.
Great sense of color! You are very talented. Keep painting!
These are fantastic. I’m blown away. Well done!
Sublime use of color by an artist creates mood, depth and compositional integrity. In “Color Combo”, Chirag achieves this and more. He is a fine young talent.
This is so beautiful! I love the colors and the compositions!
Wonderful art and a wonderful initiative supporting people in need!
A true inspiration for both kids and grownups!
Chirag, you are one talented and generous kid! I am amazed! Miska has talked about you, and I have seen some of your work before… so, the fact that you are talented doesn’t surprise me at all. However, to so generously offer to use your talent to help those in need – that puts you in the category of the ‘AMAZING’!!! You are growing into one wonderful human being! A lot of people out there feel sympathy for those who are hurting, but you, young man are showing compassion! You didn’t just sorry, you got involved! How proud your family must be!
Maya Andreic, Miska’s cousin

I love the colors you use, your paintings make me happy! Your story about your painting is a bonus. Thank you!
Chirag, I love the way you see the world! Beautiful, beautiful colors… To answer one of your questions, you mature as an artist by being true to your vision, trusting your imagination, and having confidence. I think you’re on your way!
Chirag,
Lovely work. The color scheme is ively and transmits warmth and energy.
Congratulations and keep up the great work!
Keep doing what you love Chirag! We are very proud of you!

Your work makes me smile :)
Chirag, it is an absolute pleasure to be your 3rd grade teacher! Your artistic abilities come out in so many ways and you are always eager to share your talent by teaching others skills and techniques. What a wonderful gift you have, Chirag, but it is surpassed by your kindness and generosity.
Hi Chirag, this is Val, Roberta’s friend. I love your artworks, you have a lot of talent. Keep up the good work, you have a brilliant future ahead.
Best wishes,
Val
Chirag, I am so proud of the amazing work that you do. Your art works blows me away! As I was looking at your webpage I was thinking to myself “I don’t think that I could paint as well as Chirag and he is only 9!”
I love that your art respresents a diverse range of color and style. I also love that you are a selfless painter and all of your earnings are donated to help others.
You are an amazing, talented, kind hearted young boy! Keep up the hard work. Your work is inspiring to all!
Hello Chirag – your art is absolutely amazing. I am lucky enough to own “a healing heart” which you painted several months ago. First – thank you so much for your kindness and generousity. I cannot tell you how much I absolutely love the painting. Everyone who sees it is stunned by its beauty, and even more so when I tell them about you. Again, I cannot thank you enough. I have told your mother that as soon I am settled in my new home, I plan to buy another (or two) of your paintings! You are an amazing boy.
Chirag,
I was absolutely shocked to see how beautiful your work is and learn you are 9. Just keep that wonder, amazement, and curiosity about life and ask yourself how you can expand that…and you will grow as an artist naturally and with your uniqueness.
Best, Craig
Dear Chirag,
I am sure you are born to be a genius. The passion I can see in your eyes is incredible. I would want to bless you with all the happiness for life time. I know from my experience that artists are always pure of heart. I wish that you also paint the thoughts of good virtues, good culture, to save mother earth. I am telling all this because with time all these are also dying out. Let people learn from a young heart what life is all about!.
-Love
God bless you.
Hi Chirag…..Amazing paintings…..I did go through your collection on Flickr…they are beautiful….I must say you have a way with colors and you have a great future ahead….Just follow your heart and keep painting…..all the very best…..

I have always been a fan of this young boy who truly is gifted with so much talent and creativity and his work is so beautiful and continues to amaze and awe me!!
Chirag,
I know your work through Jason and Courtney. How do I commission you to do a painting for me? I would love to have a piece of your work and am so proud of your generosity and story. Keep up the good work!
you have an off beat imagination and an amazing color palette. i think your future is going to be very bright young man! keep painting as long as you love it.
I’ m Saige’s mom-Saige is Chirag’s classmate. We really love and appreciate Chirag’s art work. Keep up the great work! Rock on dude! Saige and Saige’s mom, Lisa
What do you like about my art?
Bold use of color. Nice balance on the page (usually takes artists years to stop putting everything in the middle of the page!). Fun free fell to your art.
How do I mature as an artist? Watch others that you respect create art. You’ll pick up a suprising variety of new skills through observation… not as many as from doing your own thing, but it’s always nice to learn a trick or two from someone else.
How do I network with other child artists? You seem to be pretty good at that. I’d recommend contacting the UW art school to see if you can sit in on a painting class or two. Might be nice to see what the 19-22 year old kids are up to!
Chirag, thank you for donating “Loving Heart” to our auction for Young Musicians and Artists, and helping to raise money for scholarships for children who can’t afford to go to camp. Your paintings are so touching, I can’t wait to see what you do next!
