There's been a lot of talk about taxes this time of year...and, rightfully so. It's the time to start getting organized to help your business get on track for the year ahead.
Here are 3 quick and easy financial tips for all small business owners to implement this year:
1. Keep Your Receipts All In One Place
Get your business finances in order for the year ahead by creating a place to store your paperwork. This can be a binder, a drawer, a folder or just about anything else you can think of to collect and save all of your receipts and financial paperwork for the upcoming year.
2. Manage Your Bookkeeping Year-Round
When tax time comes, make sure you aren't scrambling to get your numbers straight by keeping track of your books year-round. Alleviate the stress by managing your bookkeeping on a regular basis (monthly or quarterly) so you can easily share the required information with the IRS when tax time hits.
3. Attend A Tax Workshop
Attend a free tax workshop held by your state's department of revenue locally or online. For example, here in Seattle the Washington State Department of Revenue has regular workshops where anyone can signup and learn the basics of taxes and the state's tax laws. As a small business owner, these workshops are a great tool to help you understand your responsibilities for tax reporting.
