You may have mastered the art of using a paintbrush, a torch, a pottery wheel, or any of the other tools used to create fabulous works of art, but mastering the camera to feature those pieces in
their best light is another challenge altogether!
Product photography is an art in and of itself. And if you are unable to hire a professional photographer to shoot your work or if you prefer to keep the creative process in house from start to finish, then here are 3 tips for taking great product photos.
Tip #1: When taking product photos, concentrate on making your product unique rather than the surroundings! A lot of energy is wasted trying to find the perfect props so take a step back and evaluate what those props are doing to improve the quality of your image.
Tip #2: Be consistent when taking product shots...try to create a theme and cohesive look using consistent backgrounds and props. This is especially important when your featuring multiple product images alongside one another like you might in your online store.
Tip #3: Be patient, take your product pictures gradually and don't expect to get perfect product shots right from the start. Eventually, you'll develop the necessary skills to get great product shots and others will be asking you for photography advice!
Bonus Tip: Make sure the lens of your camera is clean...quality pictures are so important for showcasing your work and selling online!
