What’s your New Year's resolution? How about completing a Project 365...after hearing about a Project 365 from a photography friend this past year and reading a blog post by Peter Carey this past week, I thought this was a very interesting idea.
So, what’s a Project 365?
The idea is obvious…simply take a picture each day for a full year and capture that moment in time. The result is actually much more rewarding as many people find that they begin to see their world a little differently as they are always looking for that special image of the day so they take a little more time to notice the things around them.
Why do it?
At the end, you’ll not only be left with a year-long photo album of your memories to reflect upon, but you are almost guaranteed to have improved your photography skills from snapping so many pictures. Taking a picture every day, you naturally become more creative with your shots and begin to think more about the composition and lighting conditions for your images.
How do you do it?
Photojojo has some great tips on how to do it, but the simplest advice is to just make the commitment, carry your camera everywhere, and share your world through one image at a time. Some added inspiration is to join a Flickr group like Project 365! or iPhone365 and share your photos with others also completing a Project 365. You can also add them to Meylah's Flick group Encounters of the Creative Kind as we'd love to see them too! Some also choose a theme that inspires them like a daily self-portrait or clouds of the day while others keep it completely open and just choose images of their daily life. I haven’t chosen a theme yet, but I’ll be sure and let you know as my start date of January 1, 2010 is fast approaching.
So, whether you are a professional photographer or simply use your iPhone camera to snap those quick moments in time, you too can create your own Project 365 in this New Year. And remember, the concept is not to make it a challenge for you, but to make it a routine.
Good luck to all of you who are going to try your own Project 365 this coming year and be sure and share your thoughts and ideas with us about your experience with a Project365…we would love to hear about it!
