SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is critically important if you have goals to “get found” on the Internet. Today, we are thrilled to introduce SEO guru, Kirsten Weisenburger with her 5 fast ways to make every blog post more searchable. Without further ado, here are Kirsten's tips:
- Write the first draft of your blog post. Then brainstorm a list of five keywords that represent your topic and subject matter. Make sure they’re fairly specific: What words would you use if you were searching for your article on Google? (Your keywords can be two-word phrases.)
- While you’re revising your first draft, artfully integrate these five words into your title and the first paragraph of your post. If possible, incorporate some relevant links into your text and use these same keywords in the links.
- Write a one-sentence subtitle for your post that summarizes the topic that you’re writing about. Try to include all five of your keywords in this subtitle.
- Are you using images? Rename your images, so the filenames include some of these keywords. And make sure you include these keywords in your captions, alt text and any descriptions that you associate with these images.
- Write follow-up articles about this topic. Interlink your articles, where relevant, using the same or closely related keywords in your text.
Kirsten also pointed out three essential SEO tools, provided by Google that should be every blogger’s best friend:
- Google’s Keyword Tool finds keywords, based on their relevance and traffic volume.
- Google’s Traffic Estimator checks the number of searches on keywords in order to determine if those keywords are being searched.
- Google’s Insights identifies trends based on what people are looking for, which can be targeted to specific subject matters.
Thank you Kirsten, your insight is invaluable!

Great (and useful!) article!
Thanks for the tips.
Can't thank you enough. This was enlightening to this baby blogger (1 year). In only my two previous posts did I rethink the labels I'd been using. Duh. Appreciate it!
Thanks for these - I like to info about naming image files. Very smart!
