Flickr Groups: Crafting, Blogging, Promoting

Do you guys hang out on Flickr much? I will introduce registration on Flickr this weekend, but for now it's time to talk about a much more entertaining feature of the photo network: groups!

Indeed, groups are a fun and efficient way to raise your exposure. They're very much akin to Facebook groups, though on Flickr people are encouraged to share their pictures on specific topics. A search for "craft" or "yellow" is sure to generate very unexpected results! Today, I'd love you to notice a group titled "Crafting, blogging, promoting."It has quite a few members and a large pool of images for you to look at. Basically this group exists to help you promote your craft:

Send pictures of your crafts that you want to promote. Items from Etsy, handmade products from your shop, your website or blog. Anything relating to arts and crafts.

One can never have enough visibility online, so leveraging such a platform is worth the effort. Don't forget to add your shop or blog's URL in your photo descriptions to drive some traffic back to you! Oh, and make sure you enable "Creative Commons" licensing for your photos - this way they could end up on, say, the Meylah blog! More on that soon.

In the meantime, have a look at these great shots:

I had never thought of having flickr as a promotional tool! This is a great idea!

Great post Francis! Flickr groups are a great way to connect with fellow artists, photographers, crafters and any other creative group you could possibly think of.

Quick tip: Flickr allows a link to your online shop from your profile only. They have a rule against adding outgoing promotional links in the descriptions of individual photos. But what you can do is add a line such as “if you like this (item/image/thing) and want to see more, check out my profile!”
