How To Make Chai (Indian Tea)

The Indian subcontinent calls it Chai and today you can find several versions of Chai at cafés all around the world.  Chai in the South East Asian countries is commonly a hot beverage of choice for breakfast, snack time or just anytime to relax.

Chai is prepared with loose tea leaves brewed in boiling water.  There are several types of tea leaves from all over the world…some of the more popular names of tea are from Assam, Darjeling and many more.  Each region’s tea leaves have a different flavor and strength.

The most commonly used tea leaf is called Orange Peoke.  This has mild body in flavor and you can buy this type of loose tea at any South Asian grocery store and some larger chains.  In the absence of Orange Peoke, you can use Lipton tea bags as well.

Based on your taste, you can add a spice or a combination of spices to add flavor to your Chai such as cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, bay leaves and more.

Follow this step by step Byte-Syze Leaning tutorial to make your own Chai and enjoy…and, don’t forget to share with us how you make your own Chai and the special ingredients that you use!
