We have all fallen ill to this pesky syndrome before and maybe you are still displaying a few of its side effects? The “if I just sold a few more” syndrome is what happens to us when we feel we are on the brink of our creative business booming--if we could just sell a few more a day we would be golden.
I have to be the one to tell you that if you are not selling a few more today, you probably won’t be tomorrow either. What’s my cure? If you want something you’ve never had you have to do something you have never done. What is that something you have never done? What I see often is a lack of self-confidence in your business personality. Yes, your business has self-confidence!
If you know you have a great product and know the market you want to sell it to, but just aren’t seeing the highest return then I would gather that your message is not clear enough. When we don’t know who we are then how can we be confident in it?
Because pointing this out is only half of it I want to leave you with 2 exercises that I think will dramatically help clarify your message. Both should bring some clarity about how to better reach your customers who really do want what you have to offer-they just don’t see it yet.
Exercise #1
Write out all the ways you can identify with who you are selling to.
Exercise #2
Write out 5 of your customer’s most compelling desires.
Bonus Exercise
Write down the ONE biggest thing they get by buying from you. (To give you a hint it is not your actual product.)
Let these ideas percolate and I think you will find the benefit you are selling. Lead with this, it will translate. It is not about your technique or experience, it is how you change your customers' lives. Don’t underestimate your ability to do so!
