One of your biggest challenges when you begin selling your product is getting your brand name out into the world and gaining recognition. Marketing your product can be inexpensive, if you get creative.
With that said, here are five easy to implement marketing ideas:
IDEA 1: Build a group of like-minded entrepreneurs with products that are complementary to yours. Exchange website banners and promotions to promote each other's products on your websites and social media accounts.
IDEA 2: Sign up for helpareporter.com. The site is a hub for reporters to post the topics they’re writing about for sources (that’s you!) to read and reply to. Find press opportunities by looking for reporters writing about products like yours, or categories your product could fit into. Always remember to get creative. For example, if a reporter is writing about Breast Cancer Awareness Month and you donate a portion of the proceeds from a specific product to the cause, get in touch.
IDEA 3: Include a coupon with every order you ship to encourage customers to come back to place a second order. Discounts that receive the best response are usually between 15-25%. Another way to take advantage of every order you ship is to offer a coupon your customers could give to a friend to introduce your product.
IDEA 4: Be active on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to drive traffic back to your site. Post photos of your new items, news and updates to keep your social media accounts fresh. Don’t just promote, interact with your followers and others. For example, on Twitter watch for hashtags pertaining to your product so you can answer questions and earn credibility. On Pinterest you can create boards that let you post your products without appearing to be promoting by sharing home decor photos that just happen to feature your product or craft ideas in your niche.
IDEA 5: Giving your product away seems like a backward way to sell more products, but even a few promotional giveaways can make a difference. Make a list of bloggers who interest you and might be interested in your product. Look for those with an active following, meaning lots of blog comments and social media followers. Send a short email introducing yourself and your product and suggest themes for giveaways. Keep in mind most bloggers will want at least two products, one to review and one to give as a prize.
